Testimonials

"Jointcare has been an integral member of St. Vincents & Mercy Private’s early intervention team both in terms of  our Return to Work programs and our overall Workplace Health Management Initiatives for two years.  Their involvement has assisted many of our injured employees to return to pre-injury duties in a timely and efficient manner, at the same time providing them with the opportunity and skills to self manage their conditions for the long term, which is vital."

Susan McConnell
Injury Manager
St. Vincents & Mercy Private

"Jointcare’s workplace based health and fitness program has had a very positive impact on our employees.  Their ability to motivate even the most sedentary of our staff has been fantastic.

Ms Vivien Meade, Former OH&S Co-Ordinator DSTO, Depatment of Defence

Through the support of my Jointcare Physiologist I have been able to manage my injury more effectively and have returned to work.  I have regained my fitness and feel confident in my ability to continue to manage my condition without ongoing support or treatment."

Ms Nina McCarthy, OH&S Trainer: National Workers Union

"On behalf of the Department of Veterans Affairs, I take this opportunity to express our appreciation of Jointcare’s valuable contribution to the Back to Basics Program for Vietnam Veterans.  Your presentations were highly professional and interactive and enjoyable for participants."

Mr. Ben Witham. Manager Health Promotion Unit: Veterans Affairs

   Functional Restoration / Work Conditioning

Exercise Physiologists are trained to help people that have sustained an injury to maximize their recovery and regain their functional fitness.  We teach self-management skills.

Many people who have pain or have suffered an injury, find it difficult to maintain or regain their fitness.  Ongoing pain is often the result of loss of fitness but it is often very daunting to know where and how to get fit.

If you feel that you could benefit from some assistance in learning how to manage your pain more effectively or to start getting fitter, you will find working with an Exercise Physiologist very helpful.

Physical Fitness Assessment

An assessment takes approximately two hours.  We will look at how fit you are, the strength of your
muscles and how quickly they fatigue.  We assess flexibility, and review the health of your heart and
lungs.  This information helps us to develop a specific program for you.  We will complete a medical
history to make sure we understand your condition fully and will discuss your program with your treating
doctor.

Choosing your goals

What would you like to be able to do that you can't do now?  Think back to a time in your life when you
were fitter than you are now.  What were you able to do then that you can't do now?  How did you feel
then?  What did you look like? Would you like to be able to do these things now?  We will help you to put together a list of the things that you would like to be able to do and they will become your GOALS.

Education

An important part of the work that we do is teaching people how to look after themselves.

This can include how to manage your condition more effectively, for example, how to look after your back when you are lifting and carrying things and how to get back to work safely.

Where do we run our programs?

We conduct our programs at client's homes, local leisure centres, gyms, hydrotherapy centres and here
at the rehabilitation centre.  We will try to make sure that your program is conducted somewhere that is
close to your home or convenient for you to get to.

Costs

Jointcare programs are accredited by the VWA, Medicare (EPC Program) and some health insurers. The TAC do not fund EP Programs.  Employers can sponsor their workers for our programs pre-claim and private patients can be invoiced at $105 per hr + gst.

Your responsibilities

You will need to attend all appointments punctually and appropriately dressed.  You will need to work on your program every day and to contact your Physiologist if for any reason you cannot attend an appointment.  A late cancellation fee applies.
